Traveling to Mexico for Vacation: Is it Safe?

By Pam Smith - Global Dream Vacations  April 25th, 2011

Are you worried about traveling to the resort destinations of Cancun/Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta due to the crime you hear about in the news?

Local news stations recently commented on women being killed at a tourist resort destination in Acapulco. They unfortunately did not elaborate on the facts of the crime, and many viewers began wondering if it was safe to travel to Mexico for vacation.

News headlines will unintentionally have you believing that tourists were murdered in a resort, so make sure you read-up on details and facts concerning these incidents before you start to worry.

Even in the "US Travel Warning" that was recently re-issued for Mexico, officials advise that it is safe to travel to Mexico, as long as travelers avoid the drug cartel areas, and use common sense while traveling.

Our agency receives email alerts from the US State Department on all travel warnings and advisories. We also receive travel warnings and advisories from the many different travel and tourism companies that we work with, as it is everyone's goal to keep our citizens and our customers safe.

We strongly encourage all of our clients to relax, and know that they are in good hands. We will be the first to let you know if we feel there is a safety issue at your travel destination.  This is one of the things that make the agents at Global Dream Vacations unique, as we will not advise or sell areas that we are not 100% confident in.

Even with all of the proper facts and information, some clients may still feel uneasy about traveling to Mexico. If this is the case with you, please know that it is not possible to cancel or change your vacation reservations without losing your deposit.

Also, if your trip is paid in full, the entire cost of your vacation will be lost, unless you have purchased a "Cancel for Any Reason” insurance policy.

Insurance, as provided by Travel Guard, will not allow you to cancel your trip due to crime in your destination, unless the US Government has stopped all flights going to that destination.

If you have any concerns about your vacation, feel free to discuss them with your travel agent; she will be the best person to offer you advise on your specific vacation destination and booking rules.
